Thousands more troops to deploy to Iraq
Fri Jul 28, 2006 at 08:45:07 PM PDT
I just got around to reading my local paper and saw this headline:
Rest of 1st Cavalry gets orders. Since I knew the 4 Infantry Div. was due home sometime in Thanksgiving, I knew the 1st Cav would be moving out to take their place in Baghdad before then.
What I didn't know, was that 25,000 more soldiers are to be deployed to Iraq. With all flights cancelled back to the states, we are going to see the largest number of troops ever, in Iraq.
We already have 30,000 soldiers in Baghdad, with more arriving. Commanders are struggling with figuring out how to deploy more troops to the area as well as supply these troops.
For the rest of the story . . .
Outside the American Press bubble
Wed Jul 26, 2006 at 07:18:18 AM PDT
Since the American press lives in the same bubble as Bush, I've taken to reading foreign newspapers. It's amazing how much you can learn about what's going on in America when you read foreign newspapers.
I decided to make the newspaper rounds this morning and compile a few of the stories that I found interesting, thought provoking or had me shaking my head.
Some of my sources may be considered conservative rags or owned by "those" people, but I read for content. I will find an article on a conservative site and see the same story in a liberal paper and the two stories jive. When two sources match, who cares which way they tilt.
I like to read news and here are some of the things I've read this morning ....
Bush's Soul-mate w/poll
Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 04:46:15 AM PDT
"I looked the man in the eye and I was able to get a sense of his soul." George W. Bush, 2001, after meeting with Putin.
Well, Bush and his soul-mate will meet again this weekend in St. Petersburg for the G8 summit. Putin is hellbent on putting Russia's best foot forward. Guess you've got to impress your good friends. Chase a few people out of town, throw some more in jail, kill a few animals. Can't let their beautiful little minds see any of the harsh realities of life. Putin has to create bubble land for the world leaders.
I just hope that Bush & Putin don't discuss his tactics because we don't need Bush getting anymore ideas on how to walk all over us.

Do you know where your Cops Are? w/Poll
Wed Jul 05, 2006 at 11:15:39 AM PDT
For years now, I've been trying to get something done about 3 firework stands on the State Highway which I live across from. Every time they open up, they allow people to shoot off fireworks by the stands, camp out, play loud music and party until 3 or 4 in the morning every day that they are open. Every year, I call the Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol and I always get the same answer. They are just too short staffed to send anyone out to our area.
Things got really bad last night but I didn't call because I knew I'd get no help. I decided to call this morning and find out what I can do before they open up next time. What I was told by a Deputy Sheriff really pissed me off.
The Sheriff's Department and the Texas Highway Patrol are short staffed right now. Follow below to find out the reason..
Gitmo - This make my blood boil!
Mon Jul 03, 2006 at 06:40:14 AM PDT
Gitmo - the horror that will never go away. Every morning I check out foreign newspapers to see what's going on in America. It's a sad fact that we have to go out of the country to find out what's going on here. This headline caught my eye this morning:
Guantanamo inmates 'no longer any use'
Most of us who live in the real world have known this for a while now. The gist of the story is what turned my stomach this morning.
Follow on down and read what the Repubs are going to use Gitmo for now. . .
When Pigs Fly!

"We regret any inconvenience this matter may have caused you and remain committed to protecting the security of any personal information we receive from you."
When Pigs Fly!
Some of you may have heard about Hummingbird, Ltd. losing 1.3 million records, names and SS #'s from the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG).
The Round Rock, TX-based lender said files on 10 percent of its borrowers were downloaded to an unidentified piece of equipment belonging to an employee of Hummingbird, a third-party contractor Texas Guaranteed had hired to provide a document management system.
The files had been securely encrypted for transmission, but once the unidentified employee decrypted the files and downloaded them onto the device, he or she lost it.

I got a letter today from these assholes and I'm pissed. When I first heard about this, I had a feeling I'd be getting a letter. It's what the letter said that has me fuming.

Purple Finger Rant
Sun Jun 04, 2006 at 02:30:00 AM PDT
Remember all the pictures we saw of women with purple fingers who were able to vote in Iraq? Remember how "Freedom was on the March"? How many of you know what kind of freedom the women of Iraq now have? I've been reading a number of Iraqi blogs of late and they've all had the same chilling stories of how women are being treated. The following article is the first story I've seen published on this horror:
Men in black terrorise Iraq's women
This is what democracy has brought the women of Iraq. The rage I'm feeling right now makes me want to vomit. The next time I hear someone say how great we're doing in Iraq I'm going to scream.
Follow me below and read what we've helped bring to the women of Iraq....
From This Woman to You, I say Thank You
Sun May 14, 2006 at 04:13:48 AM PDT
On this Mother's Day, we should pay tribute to all the Women in our lives. They may be our Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts, Teachers or just a neighbor down the street. We all have women who helped shape us into who we are today. Let's face it, without women, none of would be here. So whether you are a Mother or not, I salute you in this, your day.
Follow me down and I'll tell you about the women in my life and then you can tell me about the women in your life. . . .
Bush Success Story, Sort Of
Thu Dec 01, 2005 at 10:22:48 AM PDT
"Yes, it is true that under democracy people are entitled to express their frustrations, but shouldn't it occur to these corrupted leaders that the people are complaining about their cronyism, nepotism, and favoritism, and is it about time for them to act upon the legitimate voice of their constituents, put their houses in order and call for eradication of corruption across the ranks?"
The above quote could have been written about the US government under the Repubs, but it wasn't. It appears in the Kurdish Media and is a story about what Iraq has become. Granted, this should be in the body of my diary, but I couldn't pass up the irony of that part of the article. George Bush started a war and has set in place his and the Repubs idea of democracy. They don't call themselves Repubs in Iraq, but maybe they should.
Follow below to see the sad truth of why we can stay in Iraq until hell freezes over and nothing will change.....
The Voices of War That Should Be Heard
Mon Nov 21, 2005 at 12:32:42 PM PDT
As the debate rages in this country about staying the course or leaving Iraq, the people who no one seems to listen to are the people most affected. The people of Iraq who know their country the best, who understand the tribe mentality and have lived with the ethnic differences, should have a strong voice. Politicians are the last people who should be making these decisions. Politicians who have returned to Iraq after 20 years of living in the West, should have the least voice of all. Since the war started, I've tried to read as many Iraqi blogs as I could find. I wanted to know how the people who don't have body guards and militias to protect them lived their lives among this chaos. I've found that the people seem to know more of what is happening in their country than any of the people who are in charge.
Duncan - The Judge who will decide on the Judge
Thu Oct 27, 2005 at 11:43:09 PM PDT
A diary appeared a few days ago that raised questions about the Judge who would hear the motion of whether or not Judge Perkins would be allowed to preside over the trial of Tom DeLay. There seemed to be some confusion over Duncan who was listed as giving to both Dems and Repubs. It wasn't until today, that I realized that I knew the Judge who would hear this case. To those of us in Killeen who know him, he is just plain "Bud". I decided to google "Bud" Duncan to see if he was the same one that I knew. I happened on the article which I've highlighted below.
For those who want to know more about his man, follow on down.
Chaos
Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 07:19:33 AM PDT
We've all seen over the past week ample evidence that FEMA should be renamed the Dept of Chaos. I have yet to read one article about anything these people have done right. Last night I saw a story about private citizens who got together donations, loaded them on trucks and drove to MS. The people were in tears when they saw these trucks arrive. They were the first people they had seen since the storm hit. When the gov of MS says the help in his state has been great, he's lying.
Below is what prompted me to write this
What are the Repubs trying to do?
Mon May 23, 2005 at 02:16:50 PM PDT
With the image problem America has around the world, thanks to Bush & Co, you would think they would be trying to do something about it. All they seem to be doing lately is piss more people off.
The Repubs have tried to blame Newsweek for the riots and deaths that happened on the story that appeared. From everything I've read around the Middle East, what happened was planned a long time ago. The article just gave them the excuse to start the beginning of a new tactic to win back Arab sympathy.
Laura Bush gets sent to the Middle East on a goodwill tour to try and do what? Who knows. All she's done is cause more protests.
The latest story out of the Middle East has me truly concerned that the Repubs have a plan and it isn't good.
Follow along here, it may seem minor, but with everything else going on this is only adding fuel to the fire right now...
Do you have things in your house that could get you arrested? Not talking about drugs.
Sun May 22, 2005 at 11:08:39 AM PDT
9/11 brought fear to this country and gave birth to the Patriot Act. White powder in a letter causes people to freak. Have you ever wondered if you have things around your house that could get you arrested?
I never thought about it, until I read an article in Arab News yesterday. My oldest son was a science geek. He loved all things science. Between the things my sister the science teacher gave him and presents he got for birthdays, he had quite a collection of stuff to do his science projects. It's still all in his closet for the day when I can give it to his son.
My husband has all kinds of chemicals in his shop and my youngest son has a 55 gallon container of grape scented racing fuel (Don't ask). With all the other chemical additives my son has for mixing paint when he paints his race car and the stuff he has to clean out his spray guns HAZMAT would probably put us off limits.
Go below and see why I ask about things around your house....
Secret Papers
Sun May 15, 2005 at 05:09:03 PM PDT
With the articles about the British Memo making the diaries, I was remined of an article that I read last year in the UK Telegraph. This article concerned me so much that I added it to my book marks and watched the news and read the US papers looking for reporting about this. It never came.
Added to what is in this latest memo, the secret papers from last year paint a more horrifying picture of what was going on and how easy it is to go to war, even if level heads are trying to reason with those in charge.
Condi being sued
Sat May 14, 2005 at 03:10:03 AM PDT
It seems like everyone in the Bush White House is getting sued these days. A Saudi man is going after Rice among others. Looks like people are tired of putting up with their crap.

Russia has peaked w/poll
Fri May 13, 2005 at 09:37:02 PM PDT
Whenever peak oil is discussed, the talk always turns to the Middle East. I've never heard anyone mention Russia, which seems strange. Russia holds the world's largest gas reserve, 2nd largest coal reserve and is the second largest oil exporter. They export 70% of their oil. They are also the 3rd largest energy consumer in the world.
Therefore, when I read this story in Pravda, it stuck me as strange that I haven't seen anyone else pick it up.
